Ginkgo leaf contains dozens of biologically active natural substances, including powerful free radical scavengers called flavonoids and platelet inhibitors known as terpene ginkgolides, which can help improve cerebral and peripheral blood flow and provide powerful neuroprotective effects.*
More Information on Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba works as a circulatory aid, helping to increase blood flow to the brain, which may be useful for memory loss, vertigo, tinnitus, disorientation, headaches and depression. Researchers attribute the medical effects of Ginkgo biloba extract primarily to two categories of active constituents: flavone glycosides and terpene lactones. Ginkgo flavone glycosides are primarily responsible for ginkgo’s antioxidant effects, while the terpene lactones, also known as ginkgolides, are believed to be responsible for Gingko's ability to increase blood circulation to the brain and other parts of the body. Many individuals suffering from other circulation related conditions such as leg cramps have also reported to have experienced favorable results from using ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo biloba improves capillary circulation and acts as a blood thinner, which improves circulation to all of the tissues and organs, such as the brain and heart. Ginkgo biloba interferes with PAF (platelet activating factor) which has been shown to possibly cause asthma, heart disease, hearing disorders and skin disorders like psoriasis. Ginkgo biloba helps stop free radical damage to organs and tissues, and its antioxidant effects may also inhibit platelet stickiness—which can decrease the risk of circulatory diseases, like atherosclerosis. More recent studies have provided promising evidence that Ginkgo biloba may provide beneficial effects with the following conditions: Age-related cognitive decline (ARCD), Alzheimer's disease (early-stage) and Glaucoma (normal tension glaucoma).
