Stay heart healthy with CoQ10! This pure and potent supplement improves overall heart health and its powerful antioxidant properties fight cell-damaging free radicals in the body. It has also been shown to increase physical performance and exercise capacity when taken regularly. CoQ10 is found in foods, particularly in fish and meats, and plays a significant role in the energy system of cells.*

More Information on Co-Enzyme Q10

Co-Enzyme Q10 was first discovered in 1957 at the Enzyme Institute of the University of Wisconsin, when Dr. Frederick Crane isolated the compound from a beef heart. Further research revealed that Co-Enzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, occurs naturally in the tissues of almost all plants and animals, including humans. This fat soluble substance is used by cells to extract energy from food. The ability of our vital organs (the heart, liver and kidneys) to function properly depends on receiving and maintaining a sufficient supply of CoQ10 to provide and sustain energy. Co-Enzyme Q10 is recognized as a crucial component in the process in the mitochondria that converts the energy in carbohydrates and fatty acids into the fuel necessary to drive cellular machinery and synthesis in the body. The mitochondria produce large amounts of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which helps cells perform work. Research indicates that CoQ10 is effective in treating patients with known mitochondrial disorders.

CoQ10 is required to convert fats and sugars into cellular energy, yet the natural production of CoQ10 declines precipitously with advancing age. When the body has an ample amount of CoQ10 the mitochondria can work most efficiently throughout the entire body, including the most densely populated area—the heart. CoQ10 is also a potent antioxidant, helping protect the proteins, lipids and DNA of mitochondria from oxidation, and supporting mitochondrial function. Studies with CoQ10 have mostly focused on its benefit involving certain types of cardiovascular diseases, including congestive heart failure and hypertension. However, CoQ10 has also been evaluated for high cholesterol and in diabetes. Patients with high cholesterol levels who are placed on statin drugs such as Lipitor and Zocor should take CO Q10 to counteract the muscle damage from these statin drugs, as well as drugs decreased CoQ10 levels in the blood.
