Is L-Arginine good for erections?
-Ed
Ed,
If you’re unable to get hard and stay that way, a deficiency of NO may be the cause. Nitric oxide (NO) is a naturally occurring chemical resulting from the synthesis of the amino acid arginine. NO relaxes the smooth muscles of the penis and allows blood to more readily flood the tissues. Furthermore, recent research has shown that NO helps smooth muscle tissues remain or become flexible, and it relaxes blood vessels, making it instrumental in fighting cardiovascular disease. Our bodies can make some arginine, but taking supplemental L-arginine can more quickly replenish your body’s supply and provide more “food” to create greater quantities of nitric oxide.
There are many different reasons for erectile dysfunction. It can be a medical problem, caused by side effects to medications, too much stress in your life, a result of being overweight and out of shape, or if you are over 40 years old, the instance of lower levels of testosterone in your body. I highly recommend that you see your Doctor to discuss this issue with him and ask to have your DHEA and Testosterone tested.
If you have that problem, a few suggestions for now: in addition to taking L-arginine keep animal fats very low in your diet. Choose organic vegetables and meat wherever possible to reduce pesticide and hormone exposure. Don’t eat fatty foods wrapped in PVC cling film. Use stimulants such as coffee, tea, chocolate, sugar, and cigarettes infrequently, if at all. Do not let stress become a habit in your life. Identify sources of stress and make some positive changes to you circumstances and the way you react to them. Make sure you are getting enough essential fats from seeds, their oils, or supplements of fish oils or borage oil (omega-6) or flax oil (omega-3). Make sure your supplement program includes optimal levels of vitamins B-3 and B-6, Biotin, Magnesium, and Zinc.
